A brief history of this relatively unknown Rehras Sahib can be viewed towards the end of this video (52:48). In a Katha (discourse) given at Takht Suchkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Khalsa (1902-1969 CE) mentioned how Chaupai Sahib at Takht Keshgarh Sahib would start from “Mahakaal Ki Je Sharan Pare” in the Puratan Rehras Sahib done there.

During the lifetime of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji, the Puratan Rehras Sahib of Keshgarh Sahib got displaced by the SGPC’s version of Rehras Sahib. The Rehras Sahib we see in this video contains additional quatrains (Chaupais) from Sri Charitropakhyan Sahib in Dasam Granth just before the start of the [actual] Chaupai Sahib. Also, the Chaupai Sahib prayer maintained by the Nihang Singh Jathebandis such as Budha Dal and Tarna Dal too start from “Mahakaal Ki Je Sharan Pare”. Even at Hazur Sahib, recitation of Chaupai Sahib is started from there during the annual Chandi Path.
The Rehras Sahib presented in this video is perhaps the ultimate and the biggest of all Puratan Rehras Sahibs. The Rehras Sahib done now at Takht Kesgarh Sahib is the smaller SGPC one (https://youtu.be/vrdz5UrVnV4?t=3576 ), the same one which replaced the original Rehras Sahibs in Punjab (Akaal Takht, Harimandir Sahib, Damdama Sahib, etc.).
Today, less than a mile away from the actual Takht Keshgarh Sahib, near Qila Anandgarh Sahib is the majestic historical Gurdwara Shaheedi Bagh Sahib (https://goo.gl/maps/B2bGRxRak5tjFnfJ6 ) situated within a major cantonment (Chauni) of the Nihang Singhs. Gurdwara Shaheedi Bagh Sahib has preserved the same traditional Maryada of Guru Gobind Singh Ji which can otherwise be found at Takht Suchkhand Sri Hazur Sahib. The Tarna Dal Nihang Singhs carry out the sewa at this historic shrine and maintain the same (or very similar) Puratan Maryada as Takht Hazur Sahib.
It worth mentioning here that this Rehras Sahib is not the standard Tarna Dal or Budha Dal version, but a unique one.
This Rehras is published in this Sandhya Nitnem Pothi Sahib (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1T6fMDDE9LZ7B285RP2YJVdm6YkOGfgib/view ), which mentions the brief history of this prayer being the former Takht Keshgarh Sahib Rehras Sahib. It is also named the “Puratan Rehras Sahib of Takht Keshgarh Sahib” in this following app (https://psg.oxosolutions.in/#gurbani_Shri_Kesgarh_Sahib_di_Puratan_Rehras ) (There are 2 additional quatrains within the app). This Rehras has the biggest selection of Dasam Bani I’ve personally come across and it includes all the shabads of Sri Dasam Granth recited in the Namdhari, Damdami Taksal, Patna Sahib, Hazur Sahib, Budha Dal and Tarna Dal Rehras Sahibs.

In this video some really old Puratan Panj Granthi Manuscripts (with the Puratan Rehras Sahibs) are shown accompanying the recitation. Some folios of Bhai Mani Singh Ji’s 1713 CE Aad/Dasam Granth mix bir, the Anandpuri Bir and the Patna Sahib Bir of Dasam Granth Sahib are shown wherever appropriate. If you watch this video, you will notice that it is full of little surprises and notes made during the research/translation process.
Sant Baba Gurdev Singh Ji Nihang (Anandpur Sahib), overlooks the management of this sacred shrine.
Interestingly the 9 SGGS Shabads of Rehras, have identical or near identical ones appear later in SGGS. These have been indicated on the slides. The Kartarpuri Bir only had 5 Shabads for Rehras (The 4 starting from So Purakh were not there) (A folio from a 1642 CE SGGS bir is shown to highlight this in the video). The 5 Shabads for Kirtan Sohila were referred to as “Sohila-Aarti Panch Shabad” in the Kartarpuri Bir.
