Charan Kamal Aarti – Takht Hazur Sahib

Every day, typically around 11-11.30 AM, an Aarta Sahib referred to as the Charan Kamal Aarti (Aarti of the lotus-like feet [of Guru Sahib]) is done at Takht Hazur Sahib. This often coincides with preparations for the Khande-Ki-Pahul Amrit Sanchar for initiating new members of the Khalsa Panth.

Amrit Sanchars generally take place every 2 days at Takht Hazur Sahib. It is claimed that the Nihang Singhs of Budha Dal (the pre-colonial traditional authority of the entire Khalsa), only approve of the Amrit Sanchars done at Takht Hazur Sahib outside of the actual Dal Panth (Nihang Dals). The Rehat (discipline for a baptized Sikh) given by the Punj Pyare at Hazur Sahib is similar if not the exact same as the one given by the Nihang Singhs.

Regarding the tradition of Charan Kamal Aarti, as I touched upon in my video “Hazur Sahib Aarti – Right or Wrong?…” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA0nep9vaRk ), there is a sakhi of how Guru Gobind Singh Ji told Hamir Singh to revere Shasters with incense two times a day. At Hazur Sahib, the tradition of paying respect to Shasters (with incense and lamps) is still being maintained continuously with Guru Sahib’s Kirpa. Charan Kamal Aarti is also specifically mentioned in one of the larger Puratan Rehatnamas, where Guru Gobind Singh Ji briefly discussed its specific importance.
